Background
Jessica Cabrera was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. Since leaving for college, she has lived in 3 states and 3 countries and has traveled to over 22 countries. She is a Spanish/English bilingual and speaks Spanish with her husband at home. When she shares about where she and her family have lived, people often ask if they are in the military. Her response is, “Not the U.S. military, but God’s military”.
Since the age of 18, God has called her (and later her family) on five different occasions to relocate to places she did not want to go for reasons she did not understand. Blindly following Him and navigating the fear, doubt and uncertainty of walking into the unknown by faith has brought Jessica to her knees and cultivated an intimate connection with God over the years. These experiences, and the many others in between, have woven deep convictions and powerful stories of who God is and what one can expect when choosing to live a life of faith in Jesus. Through Jessica’s life stories, God has testified to the truth that His Spirit intercedes for His people according to His will. Knowing “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31b) is an anchor of truth that Jessica clings to as she walks with the Lord.
Jessica’s journey in relationship with Jesus began at the age of 15. Right away, she began writing, singing, speaking and teaching about the character of God and His good news for all who are broken and lost. Since then, she has expressed her love for Him in living rooms, Bible Studies and women’s ministries across 3 states and 2 countries. God even opened doors for her to be a vocalist on a Spanish worship album produced in Chile that is available in churches throughout Spanish-speaking countries. Now, after 30 years of relationship with Christ, the Lord has called her to make a name for God’s Kingdom through her speaking and writing.
Career & Education
Jessica has had a 20+ year career in teaching, training, leadership development, member engagement and non-profit leadership. As a Spanish/English bilingual, she has worked in the U.S. and abroad. Jessica currently works for a national non-profit where she leads a team and oversees national leadership development, member engagement and wellness initiatives. In her role, she often speaks to large and small audiences all over the country, delivering keynotes and workshops, and she frequently interviews with media.
Jessica has a BA in Modern Languages and a M.Ed. in Human Resource Studies in Adult Education and Training. She also holds the national credentials of Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives, Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) from the Association for Talent Development, and Institute of Organization Management (IOM) from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. To make a name for the Lord.
In one of Jessica’s darkest moments, when she was weary, frustrated, confused and was struggling with extreme doubt, she came across Isaiah 55 in the Bible. Many verses from the chapter resonated with her during that season of her life, but it was the first two lines of the final verse that ignited a tiny spark of hope within her at a time when she was struggling to believe her troubles would ever end. This hope birthed a mustard seed of faith that carried her through those dark moments.
Many years later, when she was seeking the Lord about WHY He had allowed certain challenges and WHY He had relocated her so many times and WHY he had called her to write down all the stories, He brought this verse back to mind, but this time it was the last two lines of the verse.
That is when Jessica realized that God had done all of these things so that she would share with others who Jesus is and why others should trust Him with their lives. The thornbush had become a cypress in her life and her charge was to let it “make a name for the Lord”. He is worth knowing and those who chose Him will not regret it.
Isaiah 55:13
“Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress;
instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle;
and it shall make a name for the Lord,
an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
